Core curriculum

Our curriculum blends the best of educational tradition with contemporary research, practice and design. Our classrooms are technology rich and well resourced to accommodate a broad range of learning experiences. We also offer a range of challenging programs for extension beyond the core curriculum, providing opportunities for students to excel.

STEAM

We believe in equipping our students with the knowledge and skills needed to solve tough problems, gather and evaluate evidence, and make sense of information. These are the skills learnt by studying Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Math—subjects collectively known as STEAM.

At CLC we are committed to making space for women in STEAM. These subjects help young people become innovators, educators, researchers, and leaders; critical thinkers who can solve the most pressing challenges facing our nation and our world.

Physical and health education

The Physical Education program focuses on physical activity, sport and recreation. Using movement as a medium for learning, students are able to refine their personal, behavioural, social and cognitive skills, and participate in a wide range of sporting activities.  All students complete a Netball Sports Education Unit to enhance organisational leadership skills.

The Health Education program explores physical, social, emotional and personal development across the stages of our lifespan. It helps develop students’ ability to access, understand and use health information and services, and identifies strategies to maintain optimum health and wellbeing.

Music

We encourage freedom of expression through the art of music and celebrate the individuality of every student. Pushing the boundaries of a traditional music experience, we believe in developing an interest and passion for music from all genres.

Our technology rich music facilities enable students to learn, create and perform utilising our fully equipped recording studio and dedicated performance and rehearsal rooms.

Drama and Performing Arts

There are many opportunities to take part in musicals, classical and modern dramas, ensemble and solo performances throughout the  school year. Students can contribute to College productions through acting, dancing, singing, set design, choreography, artistic direction, make up and costume, stage lighting or stage management.

Students of Drama explore characterisation and apply different theatrical styles in dynamic and often physically demanding classes.

Visual Arts

The arts provide students with new ways of expressing and communicating ideas, and thinking about problems from a broad range of perspectives.

For students who wish to develop their skills in art production and appreciation, there are many options available through the core and elective programs, including Visual Arts, Design (Visual Communication and Design) and Media. Student work is proudly exhibited throughout the year.

Languages

Learning languages opens doors to exhilarating worlds, cultures, ways of thinking and creating possibilities for the future. We offer students the choice of studying: Indonesian, Italian or German. Engaging in language learning, builds skills of concentration, memory, creativity and problem-solving. Immersion in cultural experiences fosters empathy and openness. Learning a second language is exciting and important in our increasingly globalised world.

Science

Science is a dynamic, collaborative and creative subject which allows students to enjoy new discoveries and nurture their own sense of natural curiosity. It equips students with many cross curricular skills including: developing critical and creative thinking, problem solving, developing abilities to make informed decisions and communication. Science is at the forefront of our ever-evolving world and encourages students to embrace new frontiers and issues that will arise in their future.

Humanities

Humanities seeks to encourage students to question, wonder about and investigate their world. Through the study of Geography, History and Commerce students develop knowledge and skills relevant to their everyday lives. Engaging in learning experiences with a focus on problem-solving, critical thinking and collaboration enable students to interact in both local and global communities as informed and confident citizens.

Maths

Our creative approach to studying Mathematics provides opportunities for access and success for students of all capabilities and mathematical interests. Our students’ mathematical knowledge and skills are developed through participation in a range of classroom practices, collaborative approaches and practical experiences. Students across all year levels are supported both within and beyond the classroom.
